What are uterine fibroids?
Uterine fibroids is a disease of the uterus muscles that can be commonly found during the ages of 35 years old and above. Uterine fibroids are not cancerous. Most of the muscle tumors will grow slowly. In some cases, the uterine fibroids may not grow further or cause any symptoms. The size, position, and quantity of tumors will vary in each patient. Some patients may have only one tumor, but it is very big and can take up all of the pelvic area. Some people may have several tumors. The tumor may grow and protrude into the uterine cavity or become a lump that sticks out from the uterus, which the patient will be able to feel.
Laparoscopic Myomectomy can be divided into 2 main methods, which are:
1. Laparotomy, which is generally known that the surgical wound from this method will be quite big.
2. Gynecologic laparoscopic surgery can be divided into 2 main types, which are laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. The doctor can insert the laparoscope to diagnose only the internal pathology or perform the surgery at the same time. If there are surgical indicators with the objective to incise only the tumor and leave the uterus for having a child or in women who still want to keep the uterus, the tumor can be totally removed. The wound will be small, which can reduce the fascia in the abdominal cavity and pelvis by using gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. There will be 3-4 small wounds 5 millimeters in size in order to insert the laparoscope. Currently, there is development toward Minimally Invasive Surgery.

However, the laparoscopic surgery is continually being developed from Minimally Invasive Surgery to Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery.
Natural Orifice Endoscopic Surgery
This method can be used to incise the ovarian tumor and for ectopic pregnancy by inserting the surgery equipment via the vagina, which is a natural open cavity of the body. There is no need to open a wound on the abdominal surface. Therefore, the pain and recuperation period will be less. Most importantly, there will be no wound.
